The Cutters produced perhaps their best half of football this season against Newcastle in round 16, unleashing a four-try blitz to lead 20-0 after 28 minutes.

It was part of an impressive first month under coach Scott Logan but the Cutters followed with a 24-24 draw with 11th-placed Canterbury and a messy 26-12 win over last-placed North Sydney.

The Cutters returned to form last week with a 44-18 victory over Wentworthville to seize second place on the ladder but Lewis said the way they backed up last time they played Newcastle would be at the forefront of their minds.

"It was a good win [against Wentworthville] but anyone who was at training would have seen how well the boys were going. We had a couple of Dragons' boys back and it was the best team I've played in, it was very stacked, and they performed like first-graders," Lewis said.

"But looming over all that was the draw with the Bulldogs [in round 17]. We know it can all fall apart very quickly if you're not playing 100 per cent. Everything can fall apart so we're just pushing hard for that top-two finish and trying to win all the games we can."

Lewis expects a much tougher task against the Knights on Sunday, than their last meeting.

"We do go in with some confidence but there was a few of their boys out last time," Lewis said.

"They were a bit weakened and we did play well that day but they've got some very talented footballers, Clint Newton and Timana Tahu, so they've got some talented players who can turn up."
