Award-winning artist Rebecca Baker has been tutoring Amy Diaz for almost a year, and the pair will show examples of their stunning landscapes and seascapes at their exhibition, titled Art Ability.
Ms Baker said she met Ms Diaz, who has Down syndrome, after starting her study towards a certificate in disability support.
"Amy's former support worker was a friend of mine, and I was looking to work with people with a disability as art therapy," Ms Baker said.
"I had this exhibit booked for a solo exhibition at the gallery for a year, but I wanted to open it to Amy too because her work is so beautiful."
Ms Diaz and Ms Baker both paint natural scenes, from water scenes to dolphins, in a variety of mediums.
Ms Baker is studying towards becoming a disability support worker and hopes to practice her art therapy with other people with a disability. She said such a method helped break down barriers between the disabled and non-disabled.
Art Ability opens at Art Arena gallery, 39 Market Street, Wollongong, at 6.30pm on Friday. Most works are for sale.
