Cate Blanchett has scored another award, but not for acting. Blanchett has been named Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed woman for 2014.
The Oscar-winner’s top spot on the list, which also includes royals Princess Mary and the Duchess of Cambridge, was due to the Georgio Armani number she wore to the Golden Globe Awards.
Others on this year’s list include Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, actor Idris Elba and Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, who all make their debut in the ranks of the world-wide well-dressed.
Fashion-forward celebrity couples included The King’s Speech star Colin Firth and his wife Livia.

Miley Cyrus and Lily Allen hit karaoke bar
Tour mates Miley Cyrus and Lily Allen have treated karaoke lovers to a surprise performances in New York.
The two pop stars hit the Sing Sing Karaoke bar, along with Cyrus’ mother Tish and fellow singer Sky Ferreira, and were keen to show off their vocals.
Cyrus and her mother sang several songs together and were reportedly so good that one witness told New York Post’s gossip column Page Six that ‘‘no one in the crowd’’ wanted to follow them.
Allen, who is currently the opening act on Cyrus’ Bangerz tour in the US, then reportedly performed her own karaoke set.
Cyrus later surprised patrons by jumping on stage and joined in on a karaoke rendition of her hit Wrecking Ball.

George Clooney to wed in Italy
George Clooney and his fiance have posted a legal notice declaring their intention to marry in Italy.
The 53-year-old actor announced his engagement to 36-year-old lawyer Amal Alamuddin in April, but they haven’t set a date for the wedding.
A spokesman at the register office at London’s Chelsea Old Town Hall has confirmed the couple posted a legal document for a British national who is marrying abroad.
The document has been taken down after being on display for the requisite 21 days.

Springfield cast alongside Meryl Streep
Australian music star Rick Springfield will rock out with Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep in upcoming film Ricki and The Flash.
The man behind the hit song Jessie’s Girl has been cast in Tom Rothman’s film about a woman (Streep) who chases her musical dreams at the cost of her family.
Springfield will play a band member who has a crush on Streep’s character Ricki, reports the Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the story.
Last month, Springfield posted a photo on Twitter of himself with Streep before promptly taking it down.But now the news is official the photo is back.
‘‘Rick Springfield to Rock Out With Meryl Streep in ‘Ricki and the Flash’,’’ the US-based singer Tweeted on Thursday.It’s an unlikely pairing for Streep, but the Australian star is sure to provide the actress with invalubale experience from his time on the road.
It will also give Springfield the chance to show off his guitar playing on the big screen.Springfield has sold over 25 million records with 17 top 40 hits in the US.
He is also a two-time New York Times bestselling author and was honoured with the 2,525th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California on May 9.Ricki and the Flash will begin filming in October.

Handwritten Royals lyrics up for auction
The handwritten lyrics to Lorde award-winning No.1 hit Royals could be yours.
A framed lyric sheet of Royals - penned and signed by Lorde, along with her producer Joel Little - is being auctioned on TradeMe to raise money for the Play It Strange Trust.
The auction went live on Thursday morning and by early Thursday afternoon bids had reached more than $3000.The auction closes on August 18.
Royals took out last year’s Silver Scroll Award - New Zealand’s most prestigious music prize, which recognises songwriting over commercial success.Lorde also took home two Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, a Brit and four New Zealand Music Awards.
The Play It Strange Trust runs programmes for young people in songwriting, performance and recording.
