Stingrays skipper Michelle Carney has urged her teammates not to get overawed by the star-studded Macarthur Rams squad when the pair meet in a crucial clash this Sunday.
The Rams have wrapped up the minor premiership with two rounds remaining and have long been the team to beat in the top grade.
Meanwhile, Illawarra are in desperate need of a win to keep their top-four hopes alive with two games remaining.
Carney said it was crucial her squad didn't waver in battle at the business end of the season against a Rams squad featuring an abundance of W-League talent.
"We can't give them too much respect, because if we do, we will get punished," she said.
"We need to keep the intensity up high and really go out there and give it to them."
The Stingrays have won three on the trot leading into Sunday's fixture after impressive results against Northbridge, Sydney University and Football NSW Institute.
It moves the 2013 runners-up into fourth on 34 points - the same amount accrued by third-placed Sydney University and fifth-placed Football NSW Institute.
Manly United are a further point back with a game up their sleeve.
The Stingrays need wins in Sunday's match and the final round against the Blacktown Spartans.
"It is a must-win these next few games to hopefully secure a spot in the semi-finals," Carney said.
"We have had a good run and we have beaten teams above us, so it has given us good confidence for the game this week."
Illawarra have battled injuries and a long stretch without a recognised keeper this campaign.
