Handmade firearm found in car: police

A Fairy Meadow man was arrested and released pending further inquiries after police found a handmade firearm in a car at Kembla Grange on Friday night.

Police stopped a Toyota Corolla on Wyllie Road about 10pm and spoke with the occupants, a 36-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.

While searching the car and occupants, police will allege they found a handmade firearm. They also found the firing mechanism in the man’s possession.

Under the driver’s seat, police allege they found a barrel with a .22 round, attached to a laser pointer and battery.

The man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station. He was later released pending further inquiries into the possession of the firearm.
