Angus & Julia Stone reunion pays off
Think twice before you fob off that family reunion as it might just pay off, like it has for Angus and Julia Stone.
The singing siblings have reached No.1 in the ARIA album charts with their self-titled album, but it almost didn’t happen.
The pair hadn’t released an album together since 2010’s Down the Way and were enjoying their solo careers. It took legendary producer, Rick Rubin (The Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash) to reunite the brother and sister folk duo for this record.
The pair were gigging separately, releasing their solo records and weren’t intending on reuniting.‘‘We were enjoying the time apart, enjoying our different directions,’’ Julia said.
The pair were put on the same festival bill, albeit separately, and played a song together for the first time in years.
‘‘It felt so magical. We decided the moment we walked off stage that we would make this record with Rick,’’ she said.
‘‘I think we both felt the dust lift. We both felt empowered. The timing was unexpected but well placed,’’ Angus said. ‘‘We found a new way to make music together,’’ Julia said.
