Forget the industry accolades; Pharrell Williams and Shannon Noll have the songs that pass the music world's ultimate litmus test - school choirs.
Williams's Happy and Noll's Shine are the toast of this year's Southern Illawarra Music Festival, each chosen by four different schools for performance.
The festival, at the Shellharbour Club until Thursday, has brought together 21 primary schools from Mount St Thomas to Berry, performing over four nights to the theme "Australia".
Festival committee president Tania Giustiniani said the annual songfest gave area singers, percussionists and dancers the chance to perform beyond their school assembly hall together as a very large group, as well as providing soloist opportunities for children that really stand out with their vocal talent.
A festival highlight, for capacity crowds of 800, has been a rendition of The Hoodoo Gurus' What's My Scene, reworked as That's My Team by a mass, multi-school choir decked out in the colours of their favourite sports teams.
