The 32-year-old has signed a one-year deal for the 2014-15 Women's National Basketball League season and returns for the Caps after missing last season to have her second son, Levi.

Cosier is also returning from surgery on her ankle tendons after injuring the joint in her Canberra Darters debut in the Australian Netball League about 13 months ago. She had to wait until after she gave birth before she could have the operation.

Cosier learnt some valuable lessons when she returned after her first child Brodie, now 4½, was born.

She has struggled with a condition called osteitis pubis and is slowly preparing herself for the WNBL season, which begins on October 17, to ensure it does not happen again.

"Just trying to not set things off down there [in the groin] ... I've been going to the gym by myself, trying to do the right thing and lose the extra kilos after the baby; the baby weight," Cosier said. "I'm on the right track, so it's just baby steps really.

"[Osteitis pubis] is common in women after they've had a baby. There's certain things that I have to stay away from, like lunges."

With the University of Canberra taking over the Caps' licence this season, Cosier can take advantage of the uni's childcare facilities, along with teammate Abby Bishop.

Neither Cosier nor her husband Simon's parents live in Canberra, which means they have had to rely on friends to act as childminders when she is playing, and Simon is refereeing, basketball.

"It was a bit hard when I had Brodie, not having family here, but over the last four years we've made some really, really good friends and they're like my parents here. They take care of the kids a lot," she said.

"This time, coming to UC, we've got childcare this time around so that's going to help so much, especially before trainings ... before the husband comes home from work. It's going to be good. It's also good for the kids as well to be away from us."

Cosier is confident that a more experienced Capitals outfit will be able to return to the WNBL finals for the first time since 2010-11. Not only will she bring back her hard-nosed approach to Canberra, she will be joined by superstar Lauren Jackson and Kristen Veal.

"I'm really looking forward to this season. We've got a few players coming back and I'm really looking forward to playing underneath Vealy," Cosier said. "I played with her a few years back with Sydney [Uni Flames].

"We're going to have a lot older side this year, more experienced, and we've got a few young guns coming up through the ranks as well, so it's going to be an exciting season."
