Bulli cleared another hurdle in their quest for the League Championship crown with a 2-1 win over Tarrawanna.

Two goals in the first 10 minutes guided the perennial runners-up to a valuable three points at Tarrawanna Oval.

Hayden Mowbray opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest before Ben McDonald doubled the advantage for the visitors in the 10th minute.

Nick Morgan snatched a late goal back for the visitors from the penalty spot but it merely proved a consolation for the Blueys.

"It was pretty even. We had a really bad first 10 minutes with four regular first graders out so it took us a little time to get going," Blueys coach Luke McGuire said.

"Once we did, it was a pretty even contest I thought."

"I said to the boys after the game, if we play like that every week and don't get three points, I will be a happy man. We had great team spirit and stuck to the game plan."

McGuire was missing first grade starters Ilija Prenzoski, Ricky Goodchild, Blaise Gassin and Andrew Gamble for Saturday's clash.

The list of key personnel changes contributed to the Blueys' slow start and ultimately cost them the match.

Mowbray first pounced inside the six-yard box after a cross from the right flank to give Bulli a dream start.

The competition's second highest goal-scorer, McDonald, then added to his tally from similar range after neat work from Dean Heffernan.

After settling in their stride the Blueys contributed to an end-to-end affair across the 90 minutes but couldn't score in open play.

They needed youth product Dean Morosin to be brought down as he ran in on goal to get their goal through Morgan from 12 yards.

It meant little to the result in a loss which all-but rules out the Blueys' finals chance and saw Bulli kick four points clear again at the top.

"Last week put the nail in the coffin for us a fair bit so we just have to go out there and try and finish as high as we can," McGuire said.

"Port or South Coast need to lose all their remaining and we need to win all our remaining games."

Tarrawanna are now five points adrift of Port Kembla while Bulli added to their lead over Dapto Dandaloo after the Fury's game with Port was washed out on Sunday.

In other matches, a Robbie Shields double guided Wollongong United to a 4-2 victory while Wollongong Olympic beat South Coast 3-1.

Bellambi scored a vital 2-0 win over Cringila as their relegation rivals Fernhill drew with Woonona 1-1.
