Jimmy Lee was drunk and aggressive when he confronted his girlfriend in the City Beach Kiosk car park about 3am on May 25, yelling at her as she sat in his car.
Witnesses called police after the Lurnea man smashed the rear driver's side window of his car before getting behind the wheel and almost reversing into a tree. Police pulled him over in Cliff Road a short time later.
After a positive breath test, a further breath analysis at the station revealed a blood-alcohol reading of 0.224. Police charged him with high-range drink-driving.
On Tuesday Lee, who appeared unrepresented, apologised for the drunken incident and told the court he "regretted" his actions.
He said he was the sole carer for his mother and had completed a traffic offenders' program to gain some insight into the offence.
Magistrate Mark Richardson placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond, disqualified him from driving for 18 months and fined him $1600.
