The event runs on Saturday and Sunday and will feature 15 of the 16 zones in the state; host zone Illawarra will provide two teams of seven players.

The format features singles, pairs and fours with the top teams in each discipline to play for the championship on Sunday.

The tournament is sponsored by Destination Wollongong, with Figtree RSL to host the event again in 2015.

Australian under 18 stars Dylan Skinner and Dawn Hayman will spearhead one of the Illawarra teams - Hayman will play in the singles, Skinner and Jayden Gebbie in the pairs and Kayleigh Darlington, Madeline Goncalves, Jayden Tzortzis and Danyon Christie together in the fours.

In the other Illawarra team, Jordan Taylor will play singles, Lauren Shaw and Kate Davies will team up in pairs while Perry Avnell, Rylee Lawrence, Caitlin West and Jarrod Beckford are partners in the fours.

The Seven-A-Side is a major selection trial for the Junior City and Country sides then the under 18 state side.

Piepers defend Father-Son title

Back-toback Illawarra singles champion Brett Pieper and son Troy will defend their Father-Son title at the popular Dapto Citizens tournament next month.  

Brett Pieper, who has left Figtree RSL and taken up the role of Corrimal bowls co-ordinator, said winning the event last year was one of his best days in bowls.

  This year’s annual event on Sunday, September 14 is again  open to  grandfathers and grandsons.

  Prizemoney will be $1200, with the format three games of 10 ends. Entry cost is $40 per team.

 Dapto Citizens are among the largest and strongest  bowls clubs in Illawarra and are looking to build their future by appointing a Development officer.

 Dapto Citizens secretary manager Shaun Parnis said it was hoped the successful applicant would be able to lift the profile of bowls at the club, run professional tournaments and generate sponsorship.
