A 20-year-old Illawarra man caught dealing drugs at the Glasshouse Tavern has successfully appealed his full-time prison sentence.
Justin Scerri was jailed for four months in the local court in July after pleading guilty to supplying ecstasy at the Wollongong nightspot last December.
Scerri appealed the decision to the District Court, and on Wednesday was given a suspended prison sentence instead.
The court heard Scerri had been dealing in illicit drugs to fund his own addiction, but had been clean since his arrest.
"He's abstained from drugs since December last year and is having drug and alcohol counselling," his lawyer said.
Judge Paul Conlon noted Scerri had resumed his previous employment with Woolworths and had good prospects of rehabilitation.
He agreed to suspend Scerri's sentence but increased the total term to seven months.
"The court has some confidence he's back on the right track," the judge added.
