Kruger posted her pregnancy news on Twitter: "Hey everyone, here's a fun fact: I'm having a baby, and hashtagged the message with the words overjoyed and new housemate.
The message is accompanied by a black and white photograph of Kruger in her stiletto heels next to a pair of baby booties.
The news comes as Kruger spoke of her disappointment about not having children in an interview with Sunday Life magazine. She and partner Craig McPherson tried IVF four years ago, when Kruger was 45 but the intervention failed.
"I felt like I was finally with someone I would like to have a child with," she says. "It's fine, there are far worse things that can happen to a person in life than not to have children. I would never sit there thinking, 'Woe is me'. There are other people out there undergoing much morehardship than me and I won't feel sorry for myself, I just won't."
The coming season of Big Brother, starting on September 8, will be Kruger's third. Clearly, the first housemate will be a baby bump.
In a statement released to Fairfax Media, Ms Kruger did not elaborate on the pregnancy or when her baby was due except to say:
"It's been a long road but Craig and I are delighted to finally confirm we're having a baby.
"I'm very excited about the third season of Big Brother, and and even more thrilled to welcome a new little housemate of our own."
