Noel Spencer will replace Norm Boardman as Dapto Dandaloo Fury coach for the finals series this season after the coach was forced to vacate the position because of his W-League commitments.

Boardman took over at the Western Sydney Wanderers early this year and had hoped to finish the season with the Fury before focusing on his new role.

But an early start to the W-League season to cater for January's Asian Cup meant he would be unable to dedicate his time to both roles.

After a discussion with the club, it was agreed it was best for Boardman to give up the top job.

"I am sad to go because I think there is a bit of unfinished work there but to be fair I think the seed has been sown," Boardman said.

"Noel has been working with me for a couple of years now and we are pretty similar in our thinking and not a lot is going to change.

"It is bittersweet for me but at the end of the day you have to chase your dream and something is higher up on the ladder and I am going to have a go at it."

Boardman was away for the weekend so missed both of the Fury's matches.

Spencer took charge in his absence and guided the Illawarra Premier League heavyweights to consecutive 1-1 draws.

The former A-League player said continuing in the coaching role after season's end wasn't out of the question.

"It is a possibility. I am not too sure what is going to happen in regards to my football," Spencer said. "I don't know if I am going to stop playing yet. Obviously Norm has got his commitments with the Wanderers and I will take the boys for the rest of the year."
