Eagles full-back Eric Mackenzie says the team's performances in the second half of this season has them full of confidence in their game plan.

And there are no fears held over a potential elimination final at their home ground against Fremantle or away to Port Adelaide.

West Coast's late bolt for a spot in the eight was triggered by a thrilling three-point win over the Gold Coast, their opponent this week, in round 13.

Including that result, where the Eagles held on after leading by 35 points at three-quarter-time at Patersons Stadium, West Coast has won six of its past 10 games, including losses to Fremantle by seven points and Essendon by three.

The Suns have not fared so well since, winning only three of 10 games – including losses in five of their past six games.

A victory at Metricon Stadium on Sunday will put the Eagles in the box seat to snatch eighth spot and qualify for an elimination final.

Results still need to go their way though - Richmond must lose to Sydney (ANZ Stadium on Saturday), Collingwood to Hawthorn (Friday night) and Adelaide's percentage needs to remain lower than West Coast's (after its clash with St Kilda on Sunday afternoon).

"It's looking like either Freo or Port Adelaide (for the finals if we qualify). We're a chance to beat either side, I think," Mackenzie said.

"They have both been good all year. The way we have played the second half of the year, probably the last five or six games, has really shown that's the kind of footy we want to be playing and I reckon we can do some damage in finals with that.

"Adelaide Oval is a good place to play. I wouldn't mind playing there in front of 50,000 people – though a home Derby would be the first Derby final we've ever had.

"We can only control our result, so we're going to have to rely on other teams to do the job for us; which is disappointing, but still exciting."

West Coast is likely to lose Mark Hutchings for the clash after he was subbed out of the game at quarter-time of Saturday's 66-point win over Melbourne with hamstring concerns.

But the Eagles midfield will be bolstered by the return of Nic Naitanui and Scott Selwood is likely to play his first game since injuring an ankle in round 12.

Xavier Ellis and Elliot Yeo will also attempt to prove their fitness after missing games through injury.

"(Selwood's) tracking well. I think he was close to putting his hand up last week so I think it will definitely be up this week," Mackenzie said.

"He'll be a very handy addition to the midfield in there, another big body, especially if we lose Hutchy this week.

"I think (Yeo's) in the mix as well, so I'm not sure just how far away he is, but he'll be close."

The Eagles will travel on Friday for Sunday's clash on the Gold Coast with the players having an easier week on the track.
