It was nice to see, in the Mercury (Wednesday, August 27) the photo of a young family enjoying themselves on Shellharbour foreshore last Sunday. I was also there with my family and it truly is a beautiful place.

Unfortunately, I’m not so enamoured of the dog owners there. Although it used to be common to have a day out sullied when someone stood in something that a dog left behind it is, thankfully, no longer such a common occurrence. However, it did happen to us on Sunday and it was very disappointing.
We have been to lots of beaches all around Australia and I can’t think of one that came anywhere near the very sad state of Shellharbour in terms of owners disregarding the need to clean up after their dogs.
Of course the owners are responsible but I guess the council and the community in general should also take some responsibility.
Either way, perhaps we also need to start putting pressure on people if we see them doing the wrong thing.
