Not only did Jon Voight not walk his daughter Angelina Jolie down the aisle when she married Brad Pitt on the weekend, he didn’t know anything about the wedding.
The Oscar winners were secretly married by a US judge on Saturday in a small chapel at Chateau Miraval in the southern French village of Correns, a spokeswoman for the couple confirmed on Thursday.
But when Voight was asked for comment a few hours later, the 75-year-old Hollywood actor said he wasn’t aware they’d tied the knot.
‘‘That’s nice,’’ he told CBS’ Inside Edition. Voight was in Los Angeles at the time of the Jolie-Pitt wedding to attend Monday night’s Emmy Awards, where he’d been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a drama for Ray Donovan.
After the news broke he released a statement on Thursday saying he was not at all upset to have been kept in the dark, rather was ‘‘very happy for them’’.
‘‘It sounds like it was a wonderful wedding, it must have been very beautiful with the kids participating,’’ he said. ‘‘I know it was during Emmys week and they were able to do it very quietly.’’
Voight, who starred with Jolie in Lara Croft Tomb Raider, said he was heading to Europe to see the newlyweds this week and babysit his grandchildren.
The duo have been in Malta filming their latest movie By The Sea.
Jolie was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
‘‘Well, she’s been together with Brad for a while, so they must be happier than she was with the other husbands,’’ Voight told the Daily Mail. ‘‘I really like Brad, we get to bond by playing golf together.’’
Voight and Jolie, 39, were estranged for nearly a decade after they famously fell out in 2001 when the actor publicly said his daughter had ‘‘serious mental problems’’.
An upset Jolie responded with a public statement saying she did not think it was ‘‘healthy’’ for her to be around her father.
But the pair reconciled in 2010.Jolie was walked down the aisle on Saturday by her eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10.Her daughters Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, threw petals, while the couple’s other two children Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, were the ring bearers.

Rolling Stones' Australian tour: Preatures, British India to support
Sydney band The Preatures and Melbourne band British India have been announced as support acts for two of The Rolling Stones' gigs, during their tour of Australia.
The Preatures will perform before the iconic rockers take to the stage at the Hope Estate, Hunter Valley, NSW, while British India will open the show.
The two bands also have the honour of performing before the Stones at Hanging Rock, Macedon, Victoria, where the Preatures will open and British India will take the second slot.
Jimmy Barnes has already been named as the support act for the band's first gig in Adelaide.
It's been a spectacularly big day for The Preatures, who announced their debut album title and release date yesterday.
The record, Blue Planet Eyes, will be released on September 26 and the band also shared a new track Somebody's Talking on SoundCloud late on Wednesday.
"When we heard there was a chance of supporting The Rolling Stones, we tried not to think about it, in case it didn't happen. When we actually got the nod from them, we went into shock and we still are," The Preatures guitarist Gideon Benson said.
British India are working on their fifth album and hope to achieve the same success they had with three previous debut albums, which all reached the top ten in the Aria charts.
There will be a final release of tickets on September 1 for The Rolling Stones' Hunter Valley gig on November 15.
The Rolling Stones 14 On Fire tour kicks off on October 25 in Adelaide and plays dates throughout the country until November 18 in Queensland.

Britney Spears tweets about being single
It seems Britney Spears is single again, if her Twitter account is anything to go by.
After a tumultuous few years during which the pop star suffered with mental health problems and displayed some erratic behaviour, Spears seemed to have finally settled down with her ‘‘everyday Dave’’ - lawyer David Lucado.
But, in one sentence, the singer has told the world that Lucado may now be out of the picture.‘‘Ahhhh the single life!’’ the singer tweeted on Friday.
If she has broken up with her beau, this comes at a bad time for the singer who has been copping flak recently for miming during her performances at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
The latest lip-synching fiasco (there has been more than one) involved Aussie singer Sia whose voice could be heard singing in a clip of one of Spears’s Planet Hollywood performances posted online by a fan.
While Spears’s camp have since denied there was any lip-synching, the pop star has been accused of miming on numerous occasions during her Vegas show.Spears may now have to weather the storm without Lucado by her side.
The lawyer was seen as a stable choice for the singer in comparison with her previous showbusiness relationships with singer Justin Timberlake, dancer Kevin Federline (who she married) and her manager, Jason Trawick.
Not to mention, the pop star’s shotgun Las Vegas wedding to her high school sweetheart, Jason Allen Alexander.
Spears has been posting pictures of her and her two sons by Federline, Sean and Jayden, to her Twitter account lately so perhaps the boys will be there to mop up their mother’s break-up tears.

Marriage rumours a stunt: Beyonce dad
Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles is convinced the speculation surrounding his daughter’s marriage to Jay Z is being fanned by promoters to boost ticket sales for the On The Run tour.
The couple was hit with split rumours earlier this year, not long after their joint tour began in June.Neither of the stars have spoken publicly to defend their six-year marriage or deny the reports.
Beyonce’s mother Tina has blasted the speculation, insisting ‘‘everything’s perfect’’. Now her father and former Destiny’s Child manager has accused promoters of encouraging the rumours to drum up interest in the concerts.
‘‘I know, because we’ve done this from experience. There’s a tour going on, so you sometimes have to ignite that tour. It’s called a Jedi mind trick. The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot at time,’’ Knowles told Texas radio station 104.1 KRBE this week.
Knowles also alludes to the infamous elevator bust-up between Jay Z and his sister-in-law Solange Knowles in May, adding, ‘‘All I know is the Jedi mind trick. Everyone’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 per cent.’’
The On The Run Tour concludes in Paris, France in September.
