The international research that went into one of His Boy Elroy’s burger has paid off with a website rating it as one of the best in Australia.

The Urban List website list of the 11 best burgers, included offerings from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

And the Fat Boy burger from His Boy Elroy.

His Boy Elroy co-owner Ben Hudson said they aimed to make the best burgers in Wollongong and making the list was a sign they were getting it right.

‘‘It was  a bit of an encouragement for all the hard work the boys are doing,’’ Mr Hudson said.

‘‘It is nice to be recognised for all the  hard work that you put in.’’

As well as the praise from the website, Mr Hudson said the sight of people Instagramming the burgers was proof that they were onto a good thing.

Mr Hudson said the Fat Boy boasted special sauce and cheese, 150 grams of beef brisket and special rolls that are made in Sydney and picked up every second day.

On top of that was burger research done in virtually every state in Australia as well as an overseas jaunt by Mr Hudson’s brother and chef Brent  to check out how to make the best burgers.

‘‘Brent went over to the US and sussed out burger places there and did that for six months,’’ Mr Hudson said.

‘‘Then when he came back that’s when we launched the burger. So he did some good research. There are some good burger joints in America - it’s where you find the best burgers.’’
