It will be hair spray, styling tongs and bobby pins at the ready for Albion Park hairdresser Natasha Comensoli as she prepares to head behind the scenes of New York Fashion Week.

The stylist, from Wollongong’s Fox and the Hair salon, was one of 10 Australian hairdressers selected to take part in the prestigious fashion show, which kicks off on September 4.

The 25-year-old is leaving for the Big Apple on Sunday, ready to spend three weeks backstage creating looks for Australian designer Sass & Bide’s runway show and working on photo shoots.

‘‘It’s still a bit surreal to be honest,’’ she said.

‘‘This is something I’ve always wanted to do and to get the opportunity to actually do it was a complete shock, I keep having to pinch myself and remember it’s real.’’

The hairdresser believes the stint will give her the chance to hone her skills, make contacts in the fashion world and experience the craziness of a large-scale show.

‘‘I know it’s going to be full-on but I can’t wait for it,’’ she said.

‘‘Some days, we’ll have a 7am call and we’ll work well into the night and the day of the runway show will be insane, but I’m so ready for it.

‘‘It won’t be like anything I’ve ever done before; New York Fashion Week is on a whole different scale to Australian shows – it’s bigger, and just on that international level, there’s so much more exposure.’’

Having worked as a hairdresser for eight years, Ms Comensoli believes her heart lies in styling and wants more work  on photo shoots, magazine spreads and fashion shows.

‘‘This is the type of work I want to be doing, I just love styling, I could do it all day,’’ she said.
