The Joint Regional Planning Panel held a public meeting at the Shellharbour Club on Thursday to hear issues regarding the building’s development application. More than 25 speakers spoke against the project.
Mr Willis said the project had undergone ‘‘an extraordinary number of assessments by internal and independent bodies to ensure that it meets the strict regulations set out by the NSW Office of Local Government’’.
‘‘The public briefing is a part of the planning process, and it is important that those with concerns should have their say,’’ Mr Willis said.
‘‘It is also important that public discussion is based on fact. Some of the reported comments are not correct.
‘‘For example, the City Hub project would not cause overwhelming debt for future residents to pay, as some have suggested.
‘‘Construction of this project is financially feasible and quite modest in its impact on council revenues.’’
