While neither player is certain to end up at his father's club, given the bidding meeting that will take place early next month, it is understood both have been told that their names will be lodged with the AFL under the father-son rule.

Clayton is the son of 160-game Fitzroy player Scott, who has worked in recruiting for more than 25 years and has pieced together the Gold Coast squad.

The teenager has built some strong form in the second half of the season, playing for Brighton Grammar and for the Sandringham Dragons.

He is one of a few players set to be snared by the Lions, with the club planning to nominate midfielder Liam Dawson and deciding whether to nominate talls Harris Andrews, Matt Hammelmann and possibly Matthew Uebergang.

Where Moore slots in will be interesting, with the Magpies' late-season slide meaning the club's current first round pick is No. 8.

Some recruiters rank Moore as the second or third best tall player in the draft, and cannot imagine Collingwood allowing him to end up at another team. One recruiting manager with a top seven pick has told Fairfax Media that he would nominate the 18-year-old.

Others believe there is a slight chance Collingwood will let Moore go or that the tall will make it to the club's second-round selection. Paddy McCartin, Christian Petracca, Peter Wright and Angus Brayshaw are entrenched in the top group, so Moore would only have to make it past three picks.

Jayden Laverde, Jake Lever, Jarrod Pickett, Lachie Weller, Caleb Marchbank are  others who will appeal  as top 10 picks.

Melbourne is likely to nominate Billy Stretch, who may fit into the third round, while West Coast is working  out its picks and where it sees Alec Waterman fitting. Bulldogs' prospect Zaine Cordy may be worth a second or third round pick, while Jayden Foster looms as a late or rookie selection.

Sydney will nominate Isaac Heeney, with Abe Davis and Jack Hiscox also in the mix.
