They may sit on different sides of the political fence but two Illawarra MPs found common ground in their quest to draw attention to the devastating effects of motor neurone disease.

Liberal Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Labor Keira MP Ryan Park sat side by side to take the chilly dump from their obliging staffers.
‘‘We did it to raise awareness about a very important but too often unacknowledged and poorly understood condition known as MND,’’ Mr Ward said.
‘‘By working together with my political opponent who is also my personal friend, it shows there are lots of things that go beyond politics.’’
Mr Park said it was great to be able to raise awareness about such an important charity.
‘‘We know there are many cases of MND in the Illawarra and we’ve all been inspired by Sharn McNeill and the Shining 4 Sharn campaign,’’ he said.
‘‘Here’s a lady who has done an enormous amount to raise awareness about this disease and at the same time has a massive fight of her own.
‘‘Gareth and I thought this was a small way of us helping support this vital cause.’’
