Paul McGregor's shake-up of St George Illawarra has begun, with the naming of Peter Mulholland as new recruitment and retention director.
The Dragons on Tuesday announced Mulholland had signed a three-year contract with the club.
He will oversee an extensive review of the club's playing roster alongside McGregor.
It's been well publicised the Dragons lack some size in their forwards and Mulholland is wasting no time trying to rectify the issue.
"I think we need to strengthen our pack of forwards up a bit and that will be the first thing," Mulholland said.
"We need to identify and retain the best local talent and recruit to fill in the gaps all the way through the career pathways from under-16s to the NRL."
Mulholland has an impressive background in coaching and recruit management.
He began his coaching career at St Gregory's College in Campbelltown where he established the school as a rugby league powerhouse.
Mulholland then spent time coaching Western Suburbs Magpies, North Sydney Bears, Western Reds, Paris Saint-Germain in the English Super League, and Penrith Panthers, before joining Canterbury in a full-time recruitment position.
He went from the Bulldogs to Newcastle and will now be in charge of the Dragons' recruitment and playing roster.
McGregor revealed after Sunday's 40-10 loss to the Knights that he had launched an in-depth review of the club's operations, including its staff and recruitment strategies.
