In introducing the basic skills of cricket in a fun and social environment at primary school level, Illawarra clubs and Cricket NSW believe it will lead to more participation in early cricket programs such as the popular Milo In2Cricket Skills program.
Following a successful pilot program last season with Wests Illawarra Cricket Club, Cricket NSW local Game Development Manager Paul Brockley said three other clubs, Balgownie, Corrimal and Wollongong had also established a relationship with their local schools.
"The link between cricket clubs and local schools has helped Wests Illawarra CC, who now will conduct an In2cricket Centre at Figtree Heights Public School on a Wednesday in Term 4 straight after school finishes."
Brockley said Wests Illawarra had established a program with Figtree Heights PS, plus Unanderra PS, Mt St Thomas PS and St Pius X, with Balgownie CC involved with Balgownie PS, Mt Ousley PS and Pleasant Heights PS.
One of Illawarra's oldest clubs, Wollongong, has ties with Coniston PS, Towradgi PS and Wollongong PS, with Corrimal CC working with Bellambi PS and Corrimal East PS.
The Sydney Sixers visited Illawarra schools recently taking along fan favourite and mascot Syd Sixer to visit the kids and promote the partnership .
All 10 Illawarra clubs are taking registrations for the upcoming season with cricket open to the youngest players through the Milo In2Cricket Program, plus Milo T20 Blast and Saturday morning junior cricket competition from under 10s.
