Western Australia and Perth Scorchers star Behrendorff has declared his second full season of professional cricket will be "the real test" as he begins his bid to "dominate other teams" and earn an international cap.

Behrendorff and the Scorchers will leave Perth on Saturday to start their preparations for the Champions League Twenty20 in India to test themselves against the best teams in the world.

It's another step for Behrendorff, who was called into the Australia A team last month and has vowed to lead the Perth and Western Australia bowling attacks to prove he's ready for international duties.

"A goal of mine is definitely to be playing for Australia, I don't know what the timeframe is but realistically I don't think it's too far away," Behrendorff said.

"There are a lot of international games at the moment so if I can continue to take wickets and perform well then over the next 12-18 months there could be a chance.

"I feel like I'm not too far away, it's a bit of a snowball effect from playing in Perth, then Australia A and hopefully it continues.

"I really want to lead the attack and dominate other teams. That's my job and I think I can step up, but a lot of people have said this year will be the real test for me."

Former ACT Comet and Tuggeranong speedster Behrendorff made his first-class debut in 2011.

But the 24 year old cemented his place in Australia's fast-bowling ranks with some outstanding performances last year, playing almost every game including the Sheffield Shield final at Manuka Oval and the Scorchers' Big Bash triumph.

He has taken 63 wickets in 16 first-class games for Western Australia and 24 wickets in 19 Big Bash matches.

Behrendorff said playing for Australia A against South Africa A in Darwin has reinforced his desire to play top level cricket and the belief that he can reach his goal.

He took 4-55 in one game and hopes to join fellow former Comets Brad Haddin and Nathan Lyon in the Australian set up.

"The big focus for me at the moment is the Champions League and I feel if I can have solid performances then everything else will take care of itself," Behrendorff said.

"I'm not really worried about anything. The way forward for me is to keep taking wickets.

"Hopefully I've shown I can play all three forms of cricket [Twenty20, one-day and four-day matches]. I feel like I can adapt and be versatile.

Behrendorff claimed the prized scalp of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in the Champions League last year.

It started a whirlwind year on the professional circuit and Behrendorff hopes this year's tournament can help propel his career to even greater heights.

The Scorchers will play against traditional powerhouses the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

"Looking back at [getting Tendulkar out] is pretty crazy," Behrendorff.

"Bowling to guys like Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, legends of the game, helped me go on and then to play so much cricket was such a good year for me.

"Hopefully this one can be just as good individually and with team success. I'm looking forward to the challenge, I feel like I've developed and I can't wait to take on this year."

Behrendorff also backed the move for a Canberra team to enter the domestic one-day competition from the 2015-16 season.

Cricket ACT is working with Cricket NSW on a bid for a team to be based at Manuka Oval and the proposal will be put to state cricket hierarchy at a meeting next week.

"That would be perfect if it happens. Canberra can be another hub for cricket and it looks like there are some big steps in the right direction," Behrendorff said.
