2013 loss not part of Warilla mindset

Warilla coach Peter Hooper won't be using the pain of losing last year's Group Seven grand final as motivation leading up to Sunday's decider.

The Gorillas were dealt a heartbreaking loss to Gerringong as they watched the premiership slip from their grasp in 2013.

Leading by a point with seconds left on the clock, Gerringong booted a field goal to level the score and then kicked another in extra time to snatch the title.

Warilla has a shot at redemption when it takes on Nowra-Bombaderry this weekend.

Hooper says last year's result won't be mentioned in any pre-game pep talks.

"I'm not a big believer in that," Hooper said.

"It's a different playing roster compared to last year ... not totally different, but a different mix.

"There's no motivation from last year at all."

Hooper says his troops are fresh and primed for Sunday's big dance thanks to a good two-week break.

The Gorillas earned first spot in the grand final by rolling old rival Shellharbour 22-4 in the major semi-final last week.

The Sharks were subsequently bundled out of the premiership race with a shock 26-24 loss to Nowra-Bombaderry in the preliminary at the weekend.

It wasn't the result punters were expecting but Hooper knew both teams had solid claims for a grand final appearance.

Now he must plot the downfall of the Jets to bring the silverware home to Warilla.

They hold the wood on the Jets this season but Hooper said past results meant nothing come Sunday.

"There's 80 minutes of footy ... hopefully, if it doesn't go to extra time.

"We've had a draw and a victory [against them] so we'll go into the weekend confident in our ability.

"We've just got to deliver it on the day.

He said the team had no injuries and he planned to go with the same 17 who played the major semi-final.
