Robinson was named on a five-man bench at Football NSW's annual presentation evening last Friday.
He was the only player from the South Coast squad to feature in the side.
"It was a bit of a surprise but it is always nice to be recognised," Robinson said.
"The start of the year, the team as a whole didn't go too well but as we progressed and moved on, I thought I played pretty well.
"I think the boys around me really stepped up," he said, adding that he wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of the young players' names come up in future.
Robinson said the support of the players around him helped his case to earn selection.
The accolade comes just a month before the 28-year-old gets married.
The men's season finished up on Sunday with Blacktown City defeating Sydney Olympic 2-1 after extra time in the grand final at Sydney United Sports Centre.
In women's football, the Illawarra's only other winner on the night was Michelle Carney.
Carney staved off stiff competition from teammate Jordan Baker to again win the women's golden boot with 24 goals for the campaign.
