Illawarra audiences will be treated to a man-eating plant, a kooky family and a battle between rival gangs next year, courtesy of the region’s amateur theatre companies.

The groups have released details of their 2015 seasons and theatregoers can expect a range of plays, children’s productions and musicals, including several debut Illawarra productions.
So Popera Productions, an independent theatre company, will open the year with Little Shop of Horrors, to run at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in January.
Auditions for the season were held last weekend and the cast is set to feature several well-known local theatre faces including Jessica Garraway, Anne-Marie Fanning and Trent Bowater.
Illawarra-born Shannon Brown, who has performed musical-directing duties for Australia’s Got Talent winner Mark Vincent and The Ten Tenors, is also set to lend his talents to the show.
Shellharbour’s Roo Theatre will kick off their season with Honk!, a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Ugly Duckling.
In February, the theatre will host Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita about the life of Eva Peron, wife of Argentinian president Juan Peron.
The show stars Jennifer Gray and Jessica Howells as Eva Peron, along with Robby Fernandez as Che and Josif Jovanovski as Juan Peron.
Later in the year, audiences can expect productions of hit plays Cosi, A Streetcar Named Desire and Othello and musicals West Side Story and Cinderella.
The Arcadians Theatre Group announced its season last Friday.
It is set to stage Spamalot, a musical adapted from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, in March, followed by the Illawarra premiere season of hit Broadway musical The Addams Family.
A run of musical revue Jerry’s Girls is also in the mix, along with children’s productions of The Little Mermaid and Snaps!
Coniston’s Phoenix Theatre has locked in productions of comedy Once a Catholic and Lights Out, Nellie Martin, an Australian play set in World War II.
In May, Illawarra native Amelia Ryan will return to the stage, followed by a production of Macbeth and a new work based on Alice in Wonderland.
