Police discovered the dead woman, aged in her 30s, and her ill eight-month-old baby at a house in Cotterill Avenue in Woonona around 2pm on Tuesday.
The baby has been taken to Wollongong Hospital.
A crime scene has been established but the cause and time of the woman's death remain unclear, police said.
