Nowra Hills trainer Steve White has possible Group1 Topgun and Melbourne Cup visits in mind for Tommy Brislane after the kennel star pulled up in good order following his Dapto Megastar (520m) win last Friday night.
The local hope jumped well and fought off an early challenge from Flash Reality in the $75,000 feature before kicking in the home straight to edge out Ritza Hattie by a neck and claim the biggest prize in South Coast greyhound racing.
He was the only locally-trained dog in the race.
‘‘To be the only South Coast dog, it was good to win it,’’ White said after the race.
‘‘I was in it last year with Amadeus Strikes and unfortunately came fourth or fifth.
‘‘This year things paved our way. There was a lot of dogs who were injured who could have been in the race and I probably would have had to come through the preludes.
‘‘But that is the way luck is. Luck is a fortune for some people and the way it has turned out, I got through.
‘‘The locals have been congratulating me and we had a lot of support.’’
White said his rising star pulled up well after the win and would contest the heats of the Group2 Bob Payne Spring Stake this Saturday at Wentworth Park.
Tommy Brislane has drawn box three in his heat – the same box he won from last Friday night.
‘‘I would be happy if he could make the final of that and then I will go to Melbourne and start trialling him up and down the main tracks down there,’’ White said.
‘‘[We will target] the Melbourne Cup and the Topgun probably. If he gets invited to the Topgun, it is a one-off race with $150,000 to the winner.’’
