Tony Millar and Frederick Mack, who sought a showdown with president Hans Stoehr, have resigned after a majority of members at the heated meeting asked them to go.

Former Opposition Leader and appeal president of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal Bill Stefaniak moved a vote of confidence in Mr Stoehr.

Mr Stoehr said the Nazi comments were derogatory and disgusting. He said the issues were dead and buried and referred to a statement issued by the club's solicitor, Uwe Boettcher,who chaired the meeting.

"The vast majority of members very vocally disputed and disagreed with Mr Millar's allegations and statements in relation to the management of the club," the statement said.

An overwhelming majority of members had expressed full confidence in Mr Stoehr and manager Chris van Reesch.

"A number of members – including some foundation members who helped establish the club in 1961 – made it clear this breakaway group did not represent their views and their actions were damaging the good reputation of the club.

"A number of members expressed strong views they were never consulted by the breakaway group and were very disappointed that the group represented themselves as acting on the club's behalf and interests," the statement said.

Mr Mack said a lynch mob mentality prevailed at the meeting. "Law and order is a core value of Germany and it is not there [within the club]," Mr Mack said. "Nazi Germany was alive in that room last night," he said.

A silver lining was friends on the management committee, and also people who had come to him afterwards to say he was doing the right thingchallenging non-compliance of regulations.

"I have [resigned], under great protest too. It was a very painful night, my father was one of the founding fathers of the club – he'd be rolling over in his grave," Mr Mack said.

Tension between two factions of the club, which led to court action and accusations of violence, culminated in what Mr Millar describes as a hostile meeting, the outcome of which would "come back and bite" administrators because of breaches to compliance rules.

"The club has not complied with the requirements of the registrar general's office lodging annual returns. That's the same with liquor licensing and the gaming and racing ... they were prepared to overlook all of that and they endorsed the president and the secretary manager and called upon the main protagonists and we resigned.

"There will be a spill of all positions and new club elections will be held, this time legally constituted. Tonight was supposed to be club elections but they were illegally called."

Vice president Joy Altmann, who is undecided whether to resign, said she had relatives who were Germans, and felt she could comment on older Germans whose behaviour at the meeting was revolting.

"I have never seen such behaviour, shouting, jeering, not listening. Their minds had been made up, they were not listening to reason."

Ms Altmann said club administrators did not realise they had to operate within statutory regulations for things such as serving alcohol and grease trap inspections.

"They think that's all irrelevant. They say this is a social club, there's no rules and regulations, they don't get it," Ms Altmann said.

"I am vice president, for all that carries, which is zero. The president says it is not a dictatorship, well I am sorry, it is."
