The Connected Commuters report revealed that one in 10 of the 4098 Australians surveyed would opt to work from home more often if they had fast, reliable broadband.
Those looking to avoid the daily grind would also reportedly benefit from the lack of commute and more flexible working environment, it said.
‘‘The NBN will open up new ways of working to suit our increasingly demanding lifestyles, and allow for greater flexibility and a better work-life balance,’’ NBN Co spokesman Darren Rudd said.
“We’re already seeing evidence that people living in NBN-connected areas are replacing their unpredictable commute by using fast and reliable broadband services to work from home.’’
The survey found nearly a third of people who already worked from home would do so more often if they had a faster, better internet connection.
Preparation and construction are under way to build the National Broadband Network for about 29,000 homes and businesses in the Illawarra, including parts of Corrimal, Dapto and Wollongong CBD.
About 13,000 homes and businesses in parts of Kiama and Dapto can already order services over the NBN.
It usually takes about 12 months from the start of construction before residents can receive NBN services from phone and internet providers.
