Wollongong detectives last night arrested the boy in East Corrimal, executing a search warrant and seizing computers and other equipment.
The boy will face court next month on 10 charges relating to hoax threats allegedly made to five premises, including schools, a university and a residence, between August 21 and September 15.
Wollongong LAC crime manager, Detective Inspector Tim Beattie, said the threat regarding a university had been made to an institution outside the Illawarra.
“Police will allege this 15 year old boy made a number of hoax calls which prompted a significant police response," Det Insp Beattie said.
The threats included threatening phone calls and emails.
"These sorts of calls do involve a significant response from emergency services, and the nature of calls in themselves can put a number of people at risk," Det Insp Beattie said.
"People need to understand that once calls are made, an investigation follows. The general warning to anyone considering making a hoax call, is to understand there are some criminal consequences."
The teenager has been given strict bail conditions to appear before a children’s court on October 20.
