South Coast and Illawarra clubs run an introduction to cricket through the popular Milo in2CRICKET clinics for under 8s, before boys and girls can enjoy T20 Blast run by the Illawarra Junior Cricket Association.
Kids love the T20 format, with the program for children up to 12 years old to run on Friday afternoons at various venues from October 24. Illawarra and South Coast clubs run their own junior competitions, plus have a combined competition in several age groups up to under 16s.
The competitions are all on Saturday mornings, while talented players are invited to join a representative program and play against some of the best teams from Sydney.
The region's clubs face a continuing battle to attract kids to play cricket but officials are trying hard to reinvigorate interest in the national sport.
Cricket NSW lent its support, with Shoalhaven junior Nic Maddinson and fellow NSW Blues Moises Henriques and Shane Watson conducting clinics and school visits for three days last week.
