Holy Spirit College have claimed state championships in three sports, with a host of students earning state recognition and the basketball team to defend their national crown later this year.

In a bumper sporting year, Holy Spirit have an unbeatable lead in the annual Champion School Award in the Diocese, with the crown headed to Bellambi for an eighth successive year.
The school's open boys' soccer team are New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) champions after beating St Edward's, Gosford, 2-1 in the final.
It was only Holy Spirit's second title in 35 years, with the team progressing to the final of the All-Schools competition - the elite schools competition for Catholic, independent and public schools in NSW.
Holy Spirit beat reigning NSW Independent Schools champions St Pius Chatswood 2-1 in the semi-finals before losing a penalty shoot-out to Westfields High in the final.
Westfields are generally regarded as having among the best facilities and professional coaches in Australia and are an A-League feeder school.
In a major achievement, Holy Spirit were only denied 4-2 on penalties, with Jack Miranda, skipper Jarryd Mortimer, Aiden Breslin and Tom Goodier outstanding in an exceptional team-based performance.
Meanwhile in netball, Holy Spirit made it back-to-back NSWCCC Intermediate (years 9-10) titles.
The performance was more meritorious given three of their Illawarra representatives were injured.
Year 10 student Abby McFadden missed the final but with classmate Chloe Fryday was selected in the NSWCCC Open's team for 2014.
Finally, Holy Spirit continue to be among NSW's top basketball schools after winning the NSWCCC title for a fourth straight year.
The Open team made the final, with Holy Spirit to defend their national crown in Victoria later this year.
Among a host of promising players, year 10 student Angus Glover made the Open NSWCCC rep side, with Glover, Lachlan Dent and Kyle Zunic in the Australian training squad for their age groups.
