Gentle folk tunes played to a backdrop of blue skies and salty, seaside air proved to be a winning formula for the Folk By The Sea festival, which has increased in popularity since its 2013 debut.

More than 700 people flocked to Kiama for the three-day event, which hosted 38 Australian and international acts at a number of venues at the showground and throughout the seaside suburb.
Headline acts included Damien Leith, folk rockers The Bottlers and overseas artists Miriam Lieberman and Bether Patterson.
Festival organiser Rod Cork said there was a 10per cent spike in ticket sales this year, as more people turned up to enjoy the ‘‘relaxing’’ festival atmosphere.
‘‘It has been interesting...the gentler artists have gone over better than the noisy ones this year...the more meaningful, folky stuff went over pretty well with the audience,’’ he said.
‘‘It was a very relaxing festival and it seems where folk festivals in general seem to be heading.’’
The 2013 event was a return for the Folk Club to its spiritual home in the southern suburbs, after hosting the Folk Festival at Jamberoo before moving to the larger Bulli Showground site.
