There were so many people who shone lanterns of hope in Wollongong last year that the 2014 Light the Night event has moved to bigger premises.

The Leukaemia Foundation's inspiring twilight walk, which raises funds for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma research, will be held at Flagstaff Hill this Friday, October 3.

It coincides with Wollongong City Council's first Twilight Food Markets for the 2014/15 season. The markets will run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Didi Kello, the founding organiser of the Light the Night Wollongong event, hopes this year's walk will be just as successful as the 2013 event at the University of Wollongong.

Ms Kello will again shine a lantern of hope - just over a year after losing her nephew Adem Crosby to acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

She will shine a gold lantern for remembrance. A white lantern is for someone fighting blood cancer and blue is to show support.

"As night falls, we light the night by raising our lanterns to the sky and taking a gentle walk," Ms Kello said.

Money raised will be invested in blood cancer research in leading Australian hospitals and institutes. As the second biggest cause of cancer death in Australia, blood cancer claims more lives each year than breast cancer or melanoma.

People can pre-register for Light the Night at www.lightthenight.org.au or buy a lantern on the night.

The popular gozleme, Balinese and dumpling stalls will return to the Twilight Food Markets, along with new stallholders such as French-Canadian cuisine by Le Montreal Shack.
