The team of Year 5 and Year 6 students won six matches before losing a tough final 8-4 to Singleton-based King Street Public School at Cronulla.
It was the first year the school had entered the state-wide competition, featuring about 260 schools, and they were delighted to have gone so close.
The team was not the most experienced of school rugby league sides with many players involved with different clubs on the weekend, while some play rugby union and soccer as their main winter sport.
But they came together and played like an experienced side.
Flinders school teacher Naomi O'Neill, also the team coach, said she was "ecstatic" about the runner-up result.
The Flinders PS squad: Zak Del Bao, Lachlan McInnes, Kane Stage, Aiden Sims, Trey Barlow, Brad Williams, Tyler Johns, Toby Peters, Jai Blinksell, Ruhan Vermaak, Kyron Ebbs-Windisch, Jake Millar, Bailey Hodges, Vincent Scotti, Zayden Sharp.
