Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic has hailed making the Asian Champions League final as the biggest milestone in the club's history - and he believes he has the players to clinch the continent's most coveted club prize.

The Wanderers booked their place in the decider with a 2-0 win over Korean club FC Seoul in front of a capacity crowd at Parramatta Stadium. Western Sydney were facing a tricky scenario following a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Seoul, and despite spending most of both matches on the back foot, the A-League side perfectly picked their moments to attack.

An early goal to Croatian midfielder Mateo Poljak was followed up by a second-half header from Shannon Cole, booking the Wanderers a date against Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, with the first leg to be played in Sydney on October 25.

Not normally one for showing his emotions, a delighted Popovic could hardly contain his excitement at what his players had accomplished, declaring it beyond what his players managed to do in the first two seasons of the A-League.

"This is the best. Nothing beats this," he said. "[To win this tournament] would be the equivalent of winning the Champions League in Europe. We now have a chance to win the Champions League in Asia. This is the competition we're in, it's down to two teams, and we're one of them."

Popovic said the result would give the code another critical shot in the arm - this time on the back of hard-earned results.

"It's fantastic for Australian football. We have the Asian Cup coming here in January. The code in Australia is growing, even without this success, but we're hoping now that this helps put Australian football even further on the world map," he said.

"Nights like this can only enhance the reputation of football this country."

Poljak's early goal proved critical in disrupting the Koreans' game plan as they threw all their energies into attack, perhaps neglecting defence as the Wanderers grabbed a second to ice the result.

"As it turned out, it changed the way they approached the game, immediately," Popovic said.

"They started pressing and changing a few things and in the end it was great to get the second goal, which was deserved after another good move. In the end, two goals was enough."

Now the Wanderers will seek the FFA's assistance in moving A-League matches to accommodate their Champions League preparation. At present, they are due to play home matches against Central Coast on October 25 and Brisbane Roar on October 1.

"That's something we'll discuss tomorrow as a club and see what we can get in terms of assistance or what assistance we need," he said. "We just want to digest this win tonight and worry about the logistics tomorrow."

Popovic said he was most proud of the side's defensive effort against Seoul given the struggles they've overcome in playing matches during the off-season, whilst also revealing the fitness battles of some key players.

"Of course, because [Seoul] have some quality players. You don't make the final last year and the semi-final this year if you haven't got the quality and you can see that," he said.

"I've run out of words for my players - and it's still only pre-season. Mateo has just come off having chicken pox, so he's been in bed for a week. You've got "Santa" [Brendon Santalab], who's played no minutes due to an injury and then a suspension and that's just to name a few. I could go through the whole lot. It's just a tremendous performance and achievement."

Asked what the secret to the side's remarkable success had been under tutelage, Popovic laughed the question away.

"I don't know what the secret is but I know what my players can do, day in and day out, and due to the preparation, I have full faith in their performance," he said. "And we're getting results because of that."

Popovic confessed he didn't know much about Al-Hilal but said he would have plenty of time to study them in coming weeks.

"We've had a little look at them but the focus has just been about us getting through," he said. "There's a little gap before we play them so we have time to analyse them. They're in the final, so of course, they're a very strong team."'
