It's that time of the year to grab your kilt and head to Dapto for the annual Illawarra Scottish Games.
The 34th Illawarra Scottish Games, hosted by the Illawarra Pipe Band, will be held at Dandaloo Sports Oval, next to Dandaloo Hotel, Dapto, this Sunday, October 19.
It is the third year the games have been held at Dandaloo Oval. The program includes a pipe band competition and marching displays.
Bands are judged on the performance of both the drummers and the pipers, as well as points awarded for best dressed.
The chieftain for the day is Dapto resident Fiona Abercrombie.
Bands from the ACT and Sydney will be attending and the event will feature a juvenile band contest, including Hawkesbury/Nepean Valley Pipe Band, Knox Grammar School and Scots College.
The crowd will also be able to enjoy a display of strength, with events such as the caber toss and throwing weights, organised by Highland Muscle.
There will be food and coffee stalls, Scottish memorabilia, musical supplies and Scottish clothing, and bar facilities. Scottish and Irish dancers will entertain at lunchtime and free children's activities with prizes will be organised throughout the day.
Gates open at 8.30am. A massed bands ceremony and presentations will be held about 3.30pm.
Tickets cost $10 for adults, pensioners and children $5, families $25, under 12s free.
