Flagstaff gives people with disabilities in the region more choice, independence and social inclusion by giving them skills, training and sustainable employment.
Chief executive Roy Rogers acknowledged the innovative partnership with TAFE Illawarra in his acceptance speech and said the creation of the Certificate II training courses in manufacturing, food processing and the new waste management course had helped the social enterprise continue to create meaningful employment for people with disabilities as it had done for 48 years.
But it was now also able to give employees the chance to gain Australian Qualifications Framework credentials.
Mr Rogers said that resulted in a greater sense of achievement, improved self-esteem and helped employees who wanted to transition to the open employment market.
Flagstaff was also recognised for its partnership with BlueScope in running Cafe Vizione to give employees development and training in customer service and hospitality.
