Lake Illawarra police will welcome the public to their Oak Flats station, as part of a community open day.
All are invited to take a guided tour of the station, see drug dogs and two horses from the Mounted Police unit, and demonstrations from the Public Order and Riot Squad.
"We want to make connections with the local community, let them see how we run and what happens inside a police station," crime prevention officer Sergeant Jason Harrison said.
"Over the years, there has been an increasing interest in all things policing but the reality of policing is different from the Hollywood version."
The POLAIR police helicopter will land at 11am, with opportunities to inspect the aircraft as well as other police vehicles.
A guided tour will take visitors through the holding cells, the highway patrol unit, the exhibit storage space and the general duties muster room.
"We are the community's police, and we hope that if ever someone is in the unfortunate situation where they have to work with police on an incident, they might work with officers they meet on an open day," Sgt Harrison said.
The open day will run from 10am-2pm on Sunday.
Sgt Harrison said a gold coin donation was appreciated though not compulsory and any funds raised on the day would benefit the Denny Foundation.
