Trainer Kerry Parker will begin the low-key return of group-placed stayer Planet Purple in a jumpout over 800 metres at Kembla Grange on Wednesday.
The eight-year-old has spent much of 2014 off the track with a foot infection and has had just one run for the calendar year.
It comes after Parker took the gelding to Melbourne last spring to contest the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m).
A return to the same race this time around is out of the question, with Parker choosing a patient approach for his stayer.
"He doesn't really have a plan at this stage. He will have a couple of jumpouts but he is still a fair way away," Parker said.
"This is just to get him ticking along and getting a bit fitter. There is probably a three-week break before he has another one, so it is probably a bit early to be suggesting to find where I am going."
Parker said the gelding was still up to six weeks away from heading to the races after last running in a Benchmark 81 (2000m) at Randwick on February 22.
If Planet Purple is able to return to fitness quickly there is a chance he might be sighted in the summer cups.
