The Illawarra Academy of Sport recently offered 125 talented local athletes sports development scholarships for 2015.
Over the past couple of months, the IAS has recruited athletes in eight sports including athletes with a disability, cycling, golf, lawn bowls, hockey, netball, triathlon and the individual athlete programs. Additional sports scholarships for rugby union (November) and cricket (March) will be inducted at a later stage.
"Scholarships are designed to support the developmental needs of the region's young talented athletes by providing industry leading high performance sport development programs," IAS general manager Shannon Fraser said.
Athletes will now attend an induction this weekend at the University of Wollongong.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport, which started in 1985, is the oldest regional academy in NSW and with its latest intake it has now offered 5078 scholarships.

IAS ATHLETES LEAD FROM THE FRONT AT SWIMMING NSW A SQUAD CAMP
The IAS provided six athletes as part of the 15-member team that represented the South Eastern Swimming Association at the recent Swimming NSW A Squad camp meet held at Knox Grammar.
The academy was represented by Lucy Cliff, Jarrod Dyer, Tarren Dyer, Astel Gaviglia, Jayden Hutchinson and Daniel St George.
The two-day Swimming NSW camp was attended by nearly 200 athletes, coaches and support staff representing all areas of Swimming NSW.
Our athletes had the opportunity to participate in a range of education sessions including dryland training, managing social media, athlete preparation presented by James Greathead, and pool sessions including extensive aquatic testing.
Both days of the camp wrapped up with a duel meet with SESA winning the second annual A squad meet cup. Jarrod Dyer was also named male athlete of the meet following a successful round of events.

IAS NETBALLERS PUSH FOR STATE SELECTION
The Illawarra Academy of Sport was well represented at the recent Netball NSW State under-17 trials with seven athletes progressing through to the third phase in the selection process. Recent graduates Chelsea Bolton, Te-Arn Bradley, Kirra Jones, Abby McFadden and Emma Sylvester, and current athletes Laura Davenport and Gabriella Taylor-Helme, remain in contention for the 2015 NSW U17 State team.

IAS GOLF DAY 2014
The Illawarra Academy of Sport will be holding its annual Golf Day Fund-raiser at the Links Shellharbour on Friday, November 14. All proceeds go directly to supporting local talented athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
