Private landholders in the Illawarra interested in finding out more about what animals are living on their land are encouraged to attend a free workshop at TAFE Illawarra Yallah Campus next week.
The 10am-noon workshop on November 6 is part of the Who's Living on My Land project.
The next round of training for the project's Illawarra to Shoalhaven Great Eastern Ranges Region is being run throughout November, thanks to the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA), in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia and Landcare Illawarra.
The Who's Living on My Land project engages private landholders as citizen scientists to investigate what animal species are on their property.
Infrared cameras are installed to capture what may be lurking on the property over a 14-day period, and all images are analysed by NPA.
NPA project officer Margot Law said regional data is then shared within the group of participating landholders.
"It is an excellent way for landholders to develop an understanding of what really is living on their land.
"We've found that landholders have discovered animals that they did not even know were present on their land and they often start to feel responsible for the fauna using their land.
"The great thing about this program is, it's up to the individual as to what action they want to take, if any, and all of the monitoring and training is free," she said.
Register for the free workshop by November 4.
