Sandra Wheeler considers herself lucky to live in such a beautiful area in West Dapto.
But the William Beach Bushcare Group member does get frustrated at times by those people in the community who throw rubbish in waterways and nearby parks.
This weekend, members of the Bushcare group, based at Brownsville, will take part in Wollongong City Council's Rise and Shine campaign to clean up water catchments leading to Lake Illawarra.
Mrs Wheeler has put out the call to residents to take part in Clean Up Horsley on November 1.
"This event is about getting the rubbish from the many waterways in West Dapto, before it all ends up in the lake, and cleaning up our beautiful suburb," she said.
"Hopefully it will encourage residents to take some pride in where they live and responsibility for their litter.
"It's not so hard to put rubbish in the bin."
William Beach Bushcare Group became involved a few years ago, cleaning around Mullet Creek in Brownsville, but this year has decided to focus on Horsley to collect litter before it reaches the creek. Rubbish "hotspots" are around stormwater outlets, parks, creek edges and shops.
"Rubbish bags and bags for recyclable items can be collected on Saturday.
"Those taking part are also encouraged to wear gloves and hats," Mrs Wheeler said.
To help out go to the skate park opposite Reed Park in Bong Bong Road, West Dapto, on Saturday, November 1.
The clean-up will be held from 10am-2pm.
