The Cordeaux Heights resident has not only raised thousands for a cause close to his heart, but he's picked up a number of teammates along the way.
This year, "Captain Kirk" will lead the 45-member Team CSC on the 90-kilometre ride from Sydney Park, St Peters, to Thomas Dalton Park at Fairy Meadow.
The team will include Mr Barrett's family and friends as well as colleagues from the Wollongong, and other offices, of global IT services company CSC.
"It's not a race, it's a ride, so you really get to enjoy the wonderful sense of camaraderie and the spectacular scenery," Mr Barrett said.
Mr Barrett knows several people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease that randomly attacks the central nervous system and affects more than 23,000 Australians.
"One of my work colleagues had to retire as it started to affect his mobility, and another colleague's wife passed away due to medical complications related to it," he said.
Since the iconic ride's inception in 1982, more than 150,000 riders have taken up the challenge and raised more than $30 million.
Cyclists can ride the full course, or the shorter 58-kilometre course from Engadine.
Donations can be made here while registrations for Sunday's ride close on Wednesday.
