THE Illawarra Academy of Sport has inducted the 30th intake of scholarship athletes since the academy was established in 1985.
Inducted into the academy last weekend were 127 talented, young athletes from across the Illawarra region representing more than 15 sports.
The athlete and parent induction is a major event on the academy's calendar and comprises several education modules including drugs in sport, performance psychology, sports nutrition, public speaking, injury prevention and management, goal setting, time management and media awareness.
All athletes were physically tested as part of the scholarship induction including speed, agility and yo-yo (cardiovascular endurance) as well as movement competency tests such as squats, hops, lunges, jumps and flexibility.
Athletes and parents were also witness to the life membership presentation to former director John O'Dwyer by current IAS president Brian Weir.
