The dirty tactics Western Sydney endured from fans in Guangzhou earlier in their Asian Champions League campaign aren't likely to be repeated in Riyadh after Al-Hilal fans quash suggestions of interrupting the Australian club's stay in Saudi Arabia.

The Wanderers should be able to sleep easy in the days leading up to the second leg of Asian club football's greatest prize after Al-Hilal fans suggest foul play involving fans is foreign to Saudi football.

Even so, the Wanderers are well prepared to handle potential disruption by rival fans and are staying in a guarded and secure hotel outside of the city centre.

A member of Al-Hilal who wished to remain anonymous said passion is always high in the stands in Saudi Arabia but interfering with a rival team's stay, transportation and preparation is not something done by fans in the conservative Gulf state.

"I have never heard of this here before," the supporter said. "It is not something we do in Saudi Arabia because of our culture."

The sentiment was shared widely among other Al-Hilal fans in Riyadh and on social media where fans hostility appears to be limited to online taunts and a tense reception from within the stadium. Fans of rival Riyadh club Al-Nassr were filmed last chanting in support of the Wanderers following their 1-0 win in the first leg. Footage was well viewed on social media sites showing thousands of Al-Nassr fans chanting "Sydney" in support of the Wanderers in the hours after the first game.

This support is likely to be replicated in the stands at the King Fahd Stadium on Saturday night with many rival fans to Al-Hilal said to have snapped up tickets to the game with the hope of Wanderers denying their bitter foes an Asian title. It should be a stark contrast to what the Wanderers expected after their experience in China for the second leg of their quarter-final clash with Guangzhou Evergrande.

Alleged fans of Evergrande were said to have continuously disturb the Wanderers sleep by kicking their hotel room doors and calling their rooms in the early hours of the morning before their quarter final second leg. The team's bus was also involved in a car crash players later described as "suspicious".

Despite the reassurances, the Wanderers players are mentally prepared for anything that can go wrong in the build-up for the biggest game of their careers.

"I suppose we're just ready, we're expecting the worst in every aspect from transport, to hotels and training grounds - anything," Defender Brendan Hamill said. "We're in the right mind frame to deal with those things and as long as we stay together as a team, we've got each others backs."
