Fire and Rescue responded to the Burrows Avenue fire around 2.30pm.
Crews had to force entry through the front doors to gain access to the two-storey house, which was well alight when firefighters arrived.
Fire and Rescue NSW inspector Brendan Cox said firefighters battled very poor visibility due to the amount of smoke, but managed to find a 45-year-old man in the house.
The man was unconscious when discovered by fire crews.
He was evacuated then given oxygen treatment outside.
Insp Cox said there was significant structural damage to the garage, as well as minor smoke and fire damage through the rest of the house.
A joint fire and police investigation will determine the cause of the fire. Insp Cox said it appeared there were two separate fire start points.
